Hand-carved Galatea Pearls with gorgeous colored stone centers. How did we get the colored stones into the pearls? For that, you have to know a little bit about pearl cultivation. But all cultured pearls begin with a mother-of-pearl bead, also called a nucleus, that is inserted into the pearl. The oyster secretes nacre or the pearl essence over the bead, producing what we call a cultured pearl. The Galatea Pearl takes this process one step further, using a colored stone bead to nucleate the oyster. The pearl is then carved by hand to expose the color beneath.
